Your bedroom should be the most restorative room in your home. A calming, beautiful bedroom isn't a luxury — it's essential for good sleep and mental wellbeing. Here's how I approached my bedroom refresh last autumn.
Choose a calming colour palette
Avoid highly saturated colours in the bedroom. Sage green, dusty rose, warm putty, and soft blue-grey are all beautiful choices that promote relaxation. I painted my bedroom walls in Farrow & Ball 'Mizzle' three years ago and I still love it every morning.
Invest in your bedding
If there's one area worth spending money, it's bedding. A high thread-count duvet cover in a natural fibre like linen or cotton will last years and only gets softer with washing.
Control the light
Blackout lining on your curtains is a game-changer. Layer a sheer underneath for soft morning light. A bedside lamp with a warm-toned bulb (2700K or lower) creates a cosy evening atmosphere.
